Vertical 1

Vertical 1 is the first volume in Manuel Jorge de Oliveira's Vertical series, documenting the first year of the Escola de Equitação — the three-year training course he founded in 2016 for riders of all levels.

The book is named Vertical because vertical balance is the goal of all riding. In it, Manuel Jorge de Oliveira draws a clear line:

“There are basically only two ways to train a horse: the way of truth and the way of lies.”

The way of truth produces horses with alert eyes, a proud posture under the rider, and a willingness to accept light, invisible aids. This book shows you what that path looks like in practice.

Whether you are a professional, a recreational rider, or a competition rider, Oliveira’s teaching is for you. Much of what he shares in his lessons is no longer heard anywhere — old knowledge, rarely taught with this depth and concentration.
