Revised 1979 JA Allen publication of the 1973 original.
The field of racehorse pedigrees has hitherto been a specialised one of interest only to a minority. But the last two decades have seen racing mushroom from a sport to a flourishing industry. The fact that records are broken annually at bloodstock sales in England, France, Ireland, and America, indicates the vast sums of money involved in this ever growing trade. The com-piling of pedigrees is no longer a science for a small number of specialists, but an important commercial facet of Thorough-bred breeding today. The purpose of this work is, therefore, not only to enable breeders both large and small to gain the best commercial value from understanding the significance of pedigrees, but also to enlighten the layman and to aid him to open up for himself a new field of knowledge.
In spite of the interest that is taken in pedigrees and the many works that have been written on the origin of the Thor-oughbred, there has remained an almost total lack of any agreed formula for the tabulating of family backgrounds.
Nor has it been realized that the laying out of a pedigree to its best advantage is a very important factor in modern selling. There is thus undoubtedly a pressing need for some instruction on pedigree presentation, and it is the purpose of this work to fulfil that need.
Hardback, good condition. Slight foxing to page edges.
