This is Riding takes the form of a series of lessons, where the sketches and the sequence pictures are vitally integrated with the text.

Gunnar Hedlund was born in 1928 in Sweden.  He studied art in Stockholm and Paris between 1948 and 1954 and then worked extensively as an artist and illustrator.  In 1971-2 he passes the Instructor's Course 1 and II at the famous riding school of Stromsholm and worked with a team of vets on a study of horse movement with the help of high-speed cameras.  From 1970-78 he was the master of a riding school outside Stockholm.

Gunnar Hedlund belongs to the modern generation of riding masters, who combine a deep understanding of the horse's psychology with a great knowledge of the classical art of riding.  Elwyn Hartley-Edwards (A Manual of Horse Training & Management, editor of Riding Magazine) comments that the combination succint text and brilliant illustration place This is Riding 'amongst the best half-dozen books to have appeared in my lifetime'.

Condition: hardback, very good.  Dust jacket a little faded but tidy.
