The British Horse Society and the Pony Club.
Secondhand, hardback, photos and illustrations.
9th edition (1989).
Over thirty years ago a number of distinguished horsernen in England had the idea of producing a book that would form the basis of instruction for Pony Club members. Until then, equestrian training had been based on the military method, and they felt that a different approach was needed to encourage young riders and to improve all-round standards. Thus was born the Manual of Horsemanship, this now famous 'blue book' which has sold well over half a million copies, has been reprinted many times, and has helped countless young people to enjoy and improve their riding.
Though each new edition has been carefully checked and amended, there have been no major alterations since the book was first published in 1950. However, over the years new equestrian techniques have evolved, as have methods of instruction, equipment, veterinary medicine, materials and feeding, and it was therefore agreed by The Pony Club Training Committee that the Manual should be brought into line with these changes. Though retaining many of the basic principles and much of the sound common sense of the original, the Committee, with the help of several outside experts, has substantially revised and/or rewritten the text. Other major changes and improvements are a redesigned layout, a completely new set of illustrations, a glossary and a revised index
We hope that this new version of the Manual will find favour with our many readers and that it will fulfil its primary aim the pursuit of excellence.
