Compete in equine sports is becoming increasingly intense.

It is perhaps time for all of us who are involved to set aside highly artificial techniques and concentrate on what is essential the quality of preparation and aftercare.

Our aim should be to produce movement which is natural and joyous and rewaning both for the horse and for ourselves

Human athletes have no problem in discussing their concerns about performance or injury. Theit equine coumerparts, required to submit to commands and unable to communicate, are howevet, not so fortunate. In a context where the only voices heard and priorities established a our own, the horse is frequently misunderstood. We should not be surprised if impaired performance is the result.

Physiotherapy is based on the understanding of and respect for biomechanical structures. It hus already made a considerable contribution to human athletic endurance and performance, It is, however, more than just a therapeutic technique: through touch and gesture it is also a means of sensory communication, of bridging the silence between horse and rider.

Tlus book, the product of the collaboration between an experienced equestrian and a physiotherapist, has been written with the purpose of explaining the new approaches to the care of the horse that physiotherapy offers and the role that it can play in developing the potential of the equine athlete, from the moment that the fool takes its first steps,

Lowe a special debt to Professor Jean-Marie Denoix, whose observations, precise anatomical descriptions and richly detailed drawings have been so important to the realization of this.
