This book is about the ailments of horses. Its object is to help you, the owner, rider, groom or onlooker, to gain a better understanding of the horse in health and illness. If, for example, your horse has a swollen leg or a 'snotty' nose you will be better able to appreciate their significance in relation to what is actually happening to the horse.

But this book is not designed as a do-it-yourself guide amateur diagnosis and home remedies. You should hold your horse, any horse, in greater esteem than to come between it and those professionally qualified to attend to its needs in ill health. It has been truly said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and nowhere is this more true than in medicine.
