Since the first edition of Horse Diseases in 1969 there has been a remarkable increase in knowledge concerning the causes and treatment of horse diseases. Increased research into this area has been prompted by a greater interest in use of the horse for sport, pleasure and work. This revised edition of Dr Belschner's book has been considerably expanded, with emphasis on those aspects of horse diseases of particular concern to horse owners. In addition, it is hoped that this new book will provide the type of material necessary to satisfy special needs of the new horse diploma courses at various advanced colleges of education.

Most horse owners today have the services of a veterinary surgeon readily available, even in more remote areas. The focus of this book then is to assist owners in understanding the  types of disorders in their horses and to enable veterinary attention to be sought where appropriate. I would like to thank Mr J. Kohnke for providing some of the illustrations.
