Mary Bromiley.
Second hand, paperback, photos and illustrations.
Of all the equestrian sports the three day event is probably the most exacting, resulting at times in a variety of different injuries to the horse. Sometimes these injuries can be superficial, with the horse 'back on the road within twenty-four hours. Sometimes they can be more serious with the horse being laid off for a year or longer. Looking back over more than twenty years of competitive riding, my horses seem to have suffered injuries mostly resulting in the horses, and my sporting aspirations, being confined to their stable or field for months on end.
Nowadays, with human medicine increasingly being adapted and applied to veterinary medicine, we are able to rapidly accelerate the natural healing process. This means injuries that used to take months to heal can now be remedied in weeks. Not only can the healing be speeded up but now many chronic conditions can be avoided if they are caught in time.
Mary Bromiley has been in the forefront of these advances for many years. The daughter of a man who was both vet and doctor, a highly successful 'West End' physiotherapist, few people can have been better qualified. She has used her skills and machines in human medicine to develop a highly successful horse practice. The road to success has not been easy, often blocked by the traditionalists advocating extended rest or old fashioned remedies. She is a highly practical, no-nonsense person, motivated by her own experience and convictions.
My horses and I have been lucky enough to know Mary Bromiley for three years, and to reap the benefit of her expertise. I would recommend to anyone her refreshingly modern and practical approach to the healing of horse injuries.
Whatever your interests with horses, as owner or rider, in racing or competition, in hunting or hacking, this book will help you to understand your horse and what you can do to help him if he is injured. In some cases you can help improve performance and help prevent injury.
Whether you see the horse as athlete, friend, or both, this book makes very worthwhile reading.
Captain Mark Phillips.
