Dressage Riding
Dressage Riding
The foreword, by Col. Williams O.B.E., divides books on riding in to two categories; those written by pen pushers and those written by authors who 'have spent a lifetime in the saddle and have put on paper the result of their own experiences; whose theories are not only based on the works of the past masters but on a life of practical horsemanship.
This book belongs to the second category and as such should find a place on the book shelf of every student of equitation.'
Watjen was taught by Oskar Stensbeck and then by Oberreiter Johann Meixner at the Spanish Riding School. His style of riding made him a typical representative of the Viennese school whose fundamentals were and are contained in the "Directives for the execution of the methodical procedure for training horse and rider", as laid down by Field-Marshall Holbein von Holbeinsberg and Director Johann Meixner in 1898. He was employed by the British team which competed at the Helsinki Olympic Games in 1952 and his influence played a part in the gold medal obtained by the British Eventing team in Stockholm in 1956.
