Jack Meagher

FOREWORD

It is with great pleasure and honor that I write the forward for this book.

My association with Jack Meagher goes back to 1975 when one day, a very tall impressive gentleman asked if he could talk to me for a few minutes.  He went on to explain that he was a sports masseur therapist who had worked on a great variety of athletes using the deep massage principle.

Jack told me of his real interest in horses, but noted how difficult it was for him to get the cooperation of horse trainers and horse people in general, which did not surprise me.

In my long career as a rider and coach, I have been approached many times by all sorts of individuals who professed to have the answers to all the problems, ranging from revolutionary new ways of shoeing horses to miraculous machines and products which would take care of all the troubles that horses seem to get into so easily.

Having lived in Europe for many years, I was aware of the deep massage that Jack was talking about, but like most horsemen, Ï go by the belief, "as good is the man as good is the method", and told Jack that I was happy to see what he could do under two conditions.  One, that I could not  afford to spend Team money on something I didn't even know would work, and two, since I had a horse in the stable with a shoulder problem, that would be his test.

Being like St. Thomas, "I only believe what I see". I told him, if you make this horse better as you say you can, then I will believe in your work.  Although it was an old set injury, the horse improved dramatically in just a few sessions and Jack had made a believer out of me!"
