Ina Gosmeier

Acupressure is a method whose effects are not as intense or as deep as those produced by acupuncture, but its advantage is that it can also be learned and applied by horse owners, trainers and caretakers. For example, fear and tension in horses can be relieved with the aid of acupressure, and the horse's psyche can also be positively influenced. It can be used to lessen the effects of stress on the horse prior to any unsettling events, such as a change of stable, a horse show or transport.

It effectively treats:
  • pain
  • anxiety and stress symptoms
  • mental tension
  • and supports acupuncture therapy
Dr. Ina Gösmeier studied veterinary medicine at the University of Giessen, after which she worked in a practice for horses and small animals. She subsequently obtained the specialist qualification in Acupuncture and undertook additional studies in Chinese herbology at universities in China and Switzerland.
Dr. Gösmeier has been running her own referral practice for traditional Chinese veterinary medicine since 1990, and in 2002 she obtained her qualification as a Wings Kinesiology Practitioner for Animals.
She has herself taken part in Grand Prix dressage and she obtained her qualification of “Master in Horse Breeding and Management” in 1989. Thanks to her extensive practical experience, she is also an in-demand writer and lecturer both at home and abroad. She has so far written four specialist books and contributed numerous articles to journals specializing in horse riding and veterinary medicine. Since 2008, Dr. Gösmeier has been teaching the application of Chinese herbs for veterinary practitioners at the Qi Academy; this led to her qualification as a Certified Veterinary Herbologist (CVH). She is also involved in the teaching of acupuncture to veterinary practitioners at universities and lectures regularly in Britain, Ireland and the USA.
Since 2002, she has been responsible for horses for German teams at championship events, where her job is to maintain the health, well-being and performance of the horses using naturopathic methods.
